Here at Highgate Vets, we provide our own out-of-hours service for the emergency treatment of our patients. This is done on an “on-call” basis, with our vet and nurse teams working to a rota. As such, each vet and nurse takes their turn and it’s not possible to request a specific vet in an emergency. However, you will see one of our regular team members.
The vet on call won’t routinely be at the surgery so please always call the practice to arrange to meet them. Phone calls to our usual numbers of 01539 721344 (173 Highgate) or 01539 887988 (Beezon Road) are diverted to the duty vet when the practice is closed. Please listen to the recorded message and press one to be put through to the vet in an emergency.
Where do we go?
All of our emergency and inpatient care is carried out at 173 Highgate. There is a map lower down this page for those unfamiliar with the area.
In the vast majority of cases, it's always best and quickest to meet the vet at the surgery. This is because we will then have access to the full range of equipment and medications available to be able to provide the best care for your pet. Also, the vets do not access to patient records away from the surgery.
If you are unable to drive, there are multiple taxi companies who are happy to transport pets.

Consultation 8:00am - 10:00pm: £94.00
Consultation 10:00pm – 8:00am: £188.00
These prices do not include any treatment or further investigations.
When would we use this service?
If you are concerned about your pet and phone our emergency line after working hours, you will be put through to the on-call vet who will be able to discuss your pet with you and help you decide if an emergency consultation is necessary.
Parking is available to the rear of the surgery. Please turn right onto Dowkers Lane following Beijing House Chinese restaurant. Our car park is the second yard on the left with a large sign at the top of the back of our building. Please park here and walk along the right hand side of the practice to the illuminated porch.
