Catherine Short BA (Hons) Popular Music Student Veterinary Nurse

In 2019 I moved to Cumbria to work as a full-time musician. However, I then decided that I wanted a career change after working in the music industry for over 10 years. Working with animals has always been a dream of mine and a career that I wanted to pursue when I was younger. Having had no veterinary experience at all, it was a massive decision to make. I decided to take the plunge, left my job, and completed a pre-apprenticeship in Animal Care and gained the experience I needed to move forward.

I first joined Highgate Vets in August 2021, working as a Veterinary Care Assistant and studied Level 2 in Animal Care and Welfare for 12 months. After completing this, I then progressed on to studying Level 3 in Veterinary Nursing in 2023.

Since starting at Highgate, I have loved every minute. Caring for animals, bonding with owners and becoming part of such a great team. Being a student nurse, my day-to-day jobs are so diverse, and it's exciting getting involved and learning so much every day. I am always happy to help and throw myself into anything, no matter what the job is. I really enjoy working at Highgate Vets, the team is brilliant and extremely supportive. I do not regret taking my first steps in to Veterinary, and I am looking forward to my future here at Highgate Vets.
