I started work at Highgate Vets in August 2017 as an Animal Nursing Assistant. I really enjoyed this role as it is very diverse, busy and hands on; it also helped me to gain insight in to what Veterinary Nursing is all about. I was very excited to become a student Veterinary Nurse in January 2019 and study at Myerscough College one day per week whilst continuing to work full time to gain my practical knowledge.
My previous experience before Highgate was non-veterinary. I graduated from Keele University with BSc (Hons) Geoscience in 2014, followed by a short spell as a post-graduate student. After 4 years at Keele I made the decision to move away from the academic world and moved back home to the South lakes. I spent the next 18 months working as a Hotel Host, during this time I realised my only real passion other than geology was animals, especially dogs! My first step in the right direction was working at a dog day care facility which soon led me on to realising that my place is in a Veterinary Practice.
At home I have an old Bearded Dragon called Loki, I don’t yet have a dog of my own but I do spend as much time as I can with my friends, family and their dogs.
